In our second Blaze Cup for 2009 the challenging format tested all teams on Monday 13th July.
Warm Up and Skill Activities: Strenuous mental and physical challenges were waiting for all teams upon arrival. The perils of Rats and Rabbits, the hazards of Under/Over, the pure "guts" of the 5 minute front plank and finally the finesse and tactics of the goal shooting battle.
Individuals and Teams were awarded points for all activities and at the conclusion of Phase 1, and the 19&Under team had taken the lead at the halfway point:
19&Under 105 points
Championship 93 points
Division One 75 points
Matchplay: Each Blaze team played each other once over 2x10min halves, with three minutes half time change. Points were awarded for intercepts, rebounds, goals scored, turnovers and points were deducted for bad passes, footwork and other infringements. Points were also awarded for the winning team of each match.
The Championship team worked hard in Phase 2, and played to the points system and their strengths well, and positioned themselves well to take out the second stage:
Championship 86 points
19&Under 61 points
Division One 55 points
After enjoying some delicious pizza as recovery food, and with great anticipation, the Championship team stole victory from the talented and hard working 19&Under team by a small 13 point margin.
Championship 179 points
19&Under 166 points
Division One 130 points
Thank you to all who participated on the night, including our tireless volunteers who stringently kept score all night and our Dads for their photography and pizza delivery talents! A special thanks to Eleonore for coordinating the calculation and recording of all the tricky scoring mechanisms so we could reach the winner!!
